Aeroporti di Roma, Company of the Atlantia Group, manages and develops the airports of Fiumicino and Ciampino. Fiumicino operates through 3 terminals, dedicated to business and leisure customers on national, international and intercontinental routes. Ciampino is mainly used by low cost airlines, by express couriers and for General Aviation activities. In 2016, ADR as a whole airport system recorded more than 47 million passengers, covering 230 world destinations that can be reached from Rome thanks to more then 100 airlines operating at the two airports.
Leonardo da Vinci airport is 32 km southwest of Rome and it’s served by an excellent network of road and rail links, which make it accessible from the city centre in just 25 minutes. The development of “Leonardo da Vinci” in recent years, driven in particular by the international flights component, led the airport to be used by 41,7 million passengers in 2016. Almost 100 airlines chose to fly to/from this airport in 2016, serving more than 200 destinations throughout the world. The Hub, through the extensive network of domestic and international destinations, is capable of ensuring considerable intercontinental feeder traffic for long-haul flights. Fiumicino is listed in the official classification by ACI Europe – Airports Council International, the internationalindependent association that uses passenger interviews to measure perceived quality in more than 300 airports worldwide – as the leading large European hub, alongside airports like London, Monaco, Amsterdam, etc. Particularly high levels of satisfaction are also noted for operational services including security checks (due to politeness of staff, accuracy and speed) and passport checks (also due to the speed of checks thanks to the 36 eGates installed by ADR to digitally read European passports). Among the services most noted by passengers are the general cleanliness of the Terminals and toilets, the visibility and clarity of information screens and the efficiency and kindness of check-in staff. ADR’s free and unlimited Wi-Fi is also greatly used and appreciated, with an average of 1 million passengers connecting each month. To consolidate this performance, important contributions were also made by the opening of the new International Boarding Area “E” in December 2016, which has become a point of reference for the sector on an international level due to the comfort, convenience and quality of the shopping and facilities, in addition to the cultural entertainment initiatives.
